Death toll rises to 15 in Madagascar cyclone, 60,000 homeless PDF Print E-mail

Cyclone warning for Bangladesh

Weather officials in Bangladesh issued a cyclone warning for the
southern part of the country on Thursday and urged boats not to sail.
Cyclonic storm Bijli was expected to intensify before making landfall
late Friday or early Saturday, said Weather Department meteorologist
Sadequl Alam. "We have raised the warning signal to four out of a
possible 10, with 10 being the highest. At this stage it's too early to
say where it will hit, but it may hit Bangladesh or the
Bangladesh-Myanmar coastline," he told AFP. Alam said the storm was
travelling at about 80 kilometres (50 miles) an hour. More than 3,500
people were killed during cyclone Sidr in November 2007, the second
strongest storm ever recorded in Bangladesh.
